Orit Cohen

Orit Cohen

Orit Cohen was born in Jerusalem, Israel. She received her M.Sc. degree from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJI), Israel where she worked at Prof. Dmitry Gelman lab for the synthesis of new asymmetric C(sp3) metalated pincer complexes. Then proceeding in the same laboratory where she obtained her Ph.D. degree investigating the synthesis and characterisation of new chiral organosilanes and organosilica materials prepared via sol-gel process. In 2018 she joined Dr. Yuri Tulchinsky group as a postdoc associate and focused on the synthesis of positively charged ligands based on sulfur compounds.  In 2019 Orit moved to Hifa and joined Prof. Michael m. Silverstein group at the department of Material Science and Engineering of the Technion as a researcher to work on high internal phase emulsion based polymers.  In 2021, Orit returned to HUJI as Researcher and student laboratory manager and joined the Nairoukh group. Besides teaching and working in the lab,  Orit enjoys reading books, watching movies, cooking and visiting new places.

Postdoctoral Associates

Miao Hu

Miao Hu

Miao Hu was born in Inner Mongolia, China in 1995. He received his B.Sc. in Applied Chemistry at South China University of Technology in 2017. In 2021, he received his Ph.D. degree in organic chemistry under the supervision of Professor Huanfeng Jiang. His Ph.D. thesis was about palladium-catalyzed cyclization and functionalization of alkenes/alkynes. In 2021, Miao joined the Nairoukh group at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem as a postdoctoral fellow. Besides playing with organic chemistry, Miao enjoys archery, photography, reading and traveling. He also has a very cute papillon that came with him from China.

Rajarshi Mondal

Rajarshi Mondal

Rajarshi Mondal is from Basirhat, India. He received his M.Sc. degree from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India where he worked at Prof. Debajyoti Ghoshal’s lab for developing metal-organic framework towards selective gas-adsorption. He then moved to Canada and subsequently obtained his Ph.D. degree from the University of Manitoba under the supervision of Prof. David E. Herbert in 2019. His Ph.D. thesis was about ligand design and coordination chemistry for application in materials chemistry and catalysis. In 2020, Rajarshi joined Nairoukh group as a postdoctoral fellow and currently he is working on understanding the conformational behaviour of fluorinated aliphatic heterocycles. Besides developing new molecules, Rajarshi enjoys watching movies and cricket (cheering for Indian cricket team!), visiting new places, photography and cooking spicy Indian food.

Graduate Students

Mohamed Agbaria

Mohamed Agbaria

Mohamed Agbaria was born in Umm Al-Fahem in 1995. He received his B.Sc. in Chemistry at Bar-Ilan University in 2018. He obtained his Master degree under the supervision of Prof. N. Gabriel Lemcoff at Ben Gurion University of the Negev where he investigated transformation of alcohols to organic halide. In fall 2020, he joined the Nairoukh group at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem as a Ph.D. student.
